Hyderabad: Protests continue to be held against the cutting of trees by the GHMC for Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) project works.
On Thursday, activists associated with various NGOs gathered near Indo-American Cancer Hospital and held a protest for an hour against tree cutting for flyovers and underpasses around KBR Park. The protesters held placards reading ‘Save KBR Park’ at a traffic island.
“We are demanding the GHMC recall the H-CITI project and conduct a public hearing in a transparent manner before initiating infrastructure projects. We also call for an environmental impact assessment,” said A Vijay Reddy, who led the protest.
The State government should initiate a Metro corridor project covering all four corners of the city for the benefit of lakhs of commuters instead of constructing flyovers and underpasses, the protester said.
Vijay Reddy said a protest involving 200 to 300 people was planned on May 10 at the traffic island near the Indo-American Cancer Hospital to raise their voice against the tree-felling activity.
